"The Mystical Healing Experience", a 3-day conference in Tucson, Arizona, is a spiritual event designed to present a variety of speakers addressing topics of self-improvement through meditation and self-awareness. The client has a reputation for providing satisfying immersive workshops in the past, and this conference presented some new challenges, where the subject matter needed to be mysterious, yet remain in the realm of the scientific and believable. We explored three options for mood and affect:
The aurora borealis phenomenon was ultimately selected by the client as the appropriate imagery to generate a an atmosphere for the conference.
The client wanted a script typeface for the conference identity. It was important to experiment with fonts to steer away from any suggestion of fantasy characters or Hollywood connotations when combined with the aurora. There needed to be a lightness of energy and mystique, but visual crispness with some weight for maximum visibility.
Final design for the event identity resulted in a clean design with movement and clarity:
